Cinema Museum Back Stage Pass

Registration is closed for this event
The Cinema Museum is hosting an editathon on Saturday October 11th 2014 from 11am to 4pm to improve Wikipedia articles about Cinema and cinema-going. This free public event is a partnership between The Cinema Museum and Wikimedia UK and is led by Jon Davies. Please do register to join us!

Location: The editathon itself is taking place at the Cinema Museum 2 Dugard Way (off Renfrew Road) London SE11 4TH. This near Kennington and Elephant and Castle Underground stations. The venue is wheelchair accessible.

Time: The event will take place from 11 until 4pm., with lunch provided.

Cost: Free

The Cinema Museum is entirely volunteer led and based in the old Lambeth Workhouse where Charlie Chaplin was once placed with his family. It contains a wealth of artefacts related to photographic and cinema memorabilia that could contribute to many Wikipedia pages. It is not generally open to the public so this is a great opportunity to see this amazing collection.

We hope Wikimedians and those interested in Cinema will attend.

Draft Agenda:

At 11, for those who need it, we will go through basic wiki training, then work directly on Wikipedia, with experienced Wikipedians and Cinema Museum staff on hand.

How to prepare:

  • Please use the online booking form to register a free place
  • Create a Wikipedia account - en:Special:UserLogin/signup
  • Learn about editing if you like: w:en:Wikipedia:Tutorial, or Getting started on Wikipedia for more information
  • Think about what you would like to edit about - you can even prepare some materials to bring with you on the day
  • It is advisable to bring a laptop computer though we have some spares: tell us on the form if you won't be able to bring one.
  • See the event's page on Wikipedia for more details and feel free to add your username or to suggest articles for improvement. See event page on Wikimedia UK

Wikimedia UK is the Wikimedia chapter covering the United Kingdom. We exist to help collect, develop and distribute freely licensed knowledge (and other educational, cultural and historic material). We do this by bringing the Wikimedia community in the UK together, and by building links with UK-based cultural institutions, universities, charities and other bodies. We also represent UK-based Wikimedians to the Wikimedia Foundation and the global Wikimedia movement.

Wikimedia UK is a registered charity. We are supported entirely by voluntary donations (principally through the annual Wikimedia fundraiser). Please note that we are a separate organization from the Wikimedia Foundation, and have no control over Wikipedia.
